Every now and then, when our winemakers make export wine, we keep some bottles back if we really like it to share with our local fans. This is one such wine, and we’re making it available and as affordable as possible as we know it’s new – but at this price, totally unmissable!
Inspired by the iconic Cape Floral Region, locally known as the Fynbos Kingdom – which includes over 15,000 indigenous flora species – this wine takes its name from Rooibos, an indigenous herb which thrives in the Cape’s mountainous terrain. The natural and healthy brew made from dried leaves is known globally as Rooibos tea. The grapes used to craft this wine are selected from vines which share their natural environment with this magical plant; high in the mountains overlooking the Cape of Good Hope. The majority of the vineyards sourced for Rooibos Ridge come from the Cederberg mountains (around the town of Citrusdal), which is the natural home of Rooibos, and many other Fynbos species.
The Chenin Blanc was sourced from vineyards on the slope of Paarl Mountain. These trellised vineyards are planted on decomposed granite soils. This variety is one which South Africa is well-known for as the country has the largest plantings of the variety in the world. More than France! The grapes were machine-harvested and delivered to the cellar where they we gently pressed and settled for 2 days. The wine was aged on its lees for 4 months with no oak influence.
