The Carignan is from one of the oldest blocks of Carignan in the country, planted in 1981 on the slopes of the Kasteel Mountain in the Swartland. The Syrah is from dryland bushvines planted in decomposed granite and shifts soils in the Swartland. Both these cultivars do well in the dry challenging climate of the Swartland.
