This Zinfandel was produced from a vineyard block that was over 20 years old. The wine showed intense concentration with juicy flavours. Harvest Date:

March 2002

Oenological Treatment:

The grapes were picked at full sugar and phenolic ripeness at 27ºB. Grapes were destalked but not crushed before fermenting. Once fermentation was completed the wine was racked to barrel. The highish alcohol slowed down the malolactic fermentation, which took almost 10 months to complete. Once completed the wine was racked, sulphured and returned to barrel for a further 8 months (18 months in total).

Zinfandel vines are over 20 years old. They are bush vines, and are planted on the low vigor soils below Paarl Mountain.

Wine Analysis: Alcohol 15.18% Residual Sugar 6.2g/l Acidity 8.1g/l pH 3.33 Colour: Opaque purple. Aroma: Intense wild berry, spice and vanilla. Palate: Enormous concentration of juicy fruit, oak and extract. Cellaring: Zinfandel will benefit from 3 to 5 years ageing.
