Our Fairview Feta has hit the shelves in South Africa and we have had a fantastic response to the product so far. Aside from its great, fresh taste our feta has also garnered attention due to its brine-free packaging, which is virtually unknown in South Africa.South African feta shelves are dominated by old-fashioned tubs of feta, in brine water. They take up extra space in your fridge, they’re twice as heavy as the actual cheese that you are buying, and they seem to end up leaking in the bag on the way home or spilling in the fridge. And lof course there’s the fun of bobbing around in the mucky brine to get that last piece out.
Until now, the brine has been in the tub to protect the feta from drying out. But by embracing modern airtight skin packaging, our Fairview Feta does not need to waste time with brine. We have introduced smaller packs for convenience (perfect for picnics!) and if you do resist finishing the cheese it will keep in your fridge for up to five days.
If you are looking for some cool ways to use our Feta, keep an eye out for our recipe booklet, which will be bagged with Fairlady ‘How to Cook’ in September as well as the October edition of Sarie Kos. Or of course you can pick one up at our tasting room when you purchase your feta, while stocks last. To get you started why not try a Greek salad the way is should be made, with this simple recipe?
Fairview Feta is available across South Africa in 100g and 200g sizes.

Surely Fresher Feta involves less packaging and that’s a great thing for our environment?

Hi there Vanessa
You are right on the money with this one. In fact this is one of our driving forces behind Fairview cheese factory becoming a completely carbon Neutral cheesery this coming December.
Some facts for thought: An empty 400g feta tub weighs 33g, while 2 x 200g Fairview Feta packaging only weighs 6.09g (81.5% less plastic – that is huge!). There also needs to be a consideration of the waste of the brine and the size of the tub. The fact that one ends up throwing all the brine down the drain (possible waste issue), together with the transport implications (400g our feta takes up less space then a 400g tub – therefore less carbon immussions from trucks during transport).
Thanks for the support – keep buying our feta.
