The La Capra range comprises nine single varietal wines, which will be available through leading supermarkets and retailers. While the Fairview brand itself is primarily focused on the on-trade and restaurant market, La Capra will allow consumers to purchase good value wines from the Fairview cellar in the mainstream retail environment.
The wines in the range are produced in a style that emphasises the fruit flavours characteristic of each grape varietal, with gentle oaking on the red wines adding complexity but not detracting from the approachable style. The range comprises Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Viognier as well as Shiraz, Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec.
There were many influences in the development of the La Capra brand, all of which have had an impact on Fairview. There is a strong Balkan musical influence, with the celebration of life and provenance featuring prominently. La Capra is all about sharing and celebrating with friends, old and new. It is about a light-hearted and gregarious approach to life and the La Capra label shows the various elements that comprise the brand. From the quirky goats at the Fairview farm to the cheese produced at the Fairview Vineyard Cheesery. The La Capra label takes these various elements and presents them in a fun an interesting way, designed to catch the consumers’ eye on the shelf. Fairview owner Charles Back has always taken an innovative approach to the marketing of his wines. “We did not want to have something on the shelf that simply looked like more of the same,” says Back. “The La Capra label creates interest as it is an alternative approach for wine packaging.”
The La Capra brand will be supported by an annual La Capra festival, which will be held at Fairview in September, starting in 2010. The weekend event will be a unique musical celebration of springtime, as the vines begin to bud and the yearly arrival of baby goats are running around on the farm. The festival will bring together the various aspects that are at the core of the La Capra brand from good food and great wines to uplifting music, family and friends.
All of the La Capra wines are available to purchase at the farm in mixed cases of 6 bottles at an introductory price of R200 per case. These wines are great for entertaining at home and they truly offer great value.
